Getting Started for Instructors

This Getting Started Guide for Instructors provides instructors with a quick overview of the functionality available in Christ In Us. The product shown in the images below may be different from the products your school or parish uses.

Once you log into Christ In Us, you can access the Christ In Us Companion course to learn how to use the instructor portal features. This welcome video demonstrates logging in and accessing the Companion courses. If you already have a Christ In Us Companion account, you can access the course directly by clicking here.

Logging In

You should have received a welcome email with your account information and your school or parish-specific URL to access your digital products. The welcome email also contains your username and password. You should not share the email or the information contained in it with others. If you did not receive the welcome email, please check your junk or spam folder.

Your screen should look like the image shown on the right. The difference is you should see your school or parish’s name. If you do not see your school or parish's name or know your school- or parish-specific URL, then check with your instructor or administrator for that information. Enter your username and password in the fields provided, and then click the "Login" button to access your assignments and materials.

Forget Your Password

If you forget your password, you may use the "Forgot Password?" link below the Login screen's password entry field. You will need to have access to the email account associated with your account. It should be the email address you use for school or parish.

Home Page/Library

Upon logging in to Christ In Us, you will land on the Home page. You will find all the products you have access to in the Library.
At the top left-side corner of the screen, you should see your name and avatar. If you do not see your name, please contact your technology coordinator at your school or parish for assistance.
Selecting a product or clicking the Grade icon in the Library directs you to the resources available to you for the selected product.

Main Navigation

Located at the top left-side corner, you will find the Menu icon. It is the icon with three horizontal lines next to your avatar. Clicking the Menu icon will give you access to the main menu, which has the main navigation items.
  • The library takes you back to the Home page, where you can access all the products.
  • Calendar allows you to add events and plan your day, week, or month.
  • Lesson Planner allows you to develop lesson plans for your class/students.
  • The portfolio allows you to view your and your student's portfolio.
  • The Assignments option brings you to the list of the assignments you have created for your class. You can adjust the assignment list using the filter to display only open, pending, graded, or to-be-graded assignments.
  • Reports will provide you access to various information you can generate to see how your students' progress through the product materials.
  • Messages is a Christ In Us messaging system used by instructors to communicate with students and their parents. Students cannot interact with other students. Instructors can only interact with students who are in one of their classes. Your administrator can turn off the messaging feature.
  • My Account allows you to edit your account information. This feature will enable you to update information like your username, password, and email address.

Alert & Report Preferences

Christ In Us will help alert you when students or a significant part of the class struggles with a particular standard. You can adjust how these warnings will work based on your preferences. You can configure your alert and report preferences through Account Settings available under Settings in the main menu.

You determine the types of assessments you would like alerts to trigger and the minimum number of questions asked per standard. The other settings tune your proficiency levels and when student alerts escalate to a class alert.

You also can determine whether the reports should display the scores as points or as percentages.

Class Management

You will find Manage Classes in the main menu under Settings, which will provide you the class management-related features. Including the ability to Manage Students and Manage Parents.

Here, you can set up classes, add students and parents.

Product Resources

Once you are comfortable using one product, you will be able to use other products in Christ In Us. While the structure and resources available will vary, the navigation and functionality will remain the same.

The dashboard for each product provides a lot of information. Using the top panel, you can access the resources for that product. One can select any navigation icons that form the program's overall structure to access that unit's materials or chapter.
Resource groups use categories to make it easy for you to locate the ones you need. The available resources for the selected unit display as icons on the screen.

Selecting the resource name will view the actual resource. On the top left side of the screen, you can find the product navigator.

Create an Assignment

To create an assignment from the Resources page, select a Unit Task and then click the Assignment icon on the screen's right side.

Select the class or classes you want to receive the assignment. The rest of the information will be pre-populated for you based on the resource that you selected.  The assignment name, as well as the start and end date, can be changed by you. The end date will default to the next day from the start date, and it is changeable.

The students for the selected class display at the bottom of the screen, and by default, the student is checked so they will get the assignment. Suppose you do not want some students to get the assignment, un-mark the checkbox to the left of their name. One can also set up groups within your class then make assignments for a group of students.

You can access all the assignments you have created by clicking the Menu icon on the screen's top-left corner and select Assignments.

Assignments List

The Assignments List contains a list of all the assignments you have created for your students. You can sort the display by clicking on the column headers.

You can see the name of the assignment, its start date, end date, and status. You can apply filters to your assignment list to make it more manageable.
There are actions available for the assignments. When you click the Ellipsis icon for each assignment in the last column of the Assignment List table, these are viewable.
You can view the resource, modify the assignment, access a class assignment report, or grade the assignment if it requires an instructor to grade it. The system will auto-grade assignments when possible. The Grade Assignment option is disabled unless the resource needs an instructor to grade it.
Once the first student starts to take an assignment, you will not be able to delete it.
One can re-assign an assignment after the students complete the assignment. You have the flexibility to re-assign to an entire class, a group of students, or an individual student.
You can extend assignments by selecting the Edit Assignment option.

Reporting

Christ In Us contains a variety of reports for you to track your students' progress and performance. Many of the reports allow you to drill down into additional levels of detail.

All the report screens have a Filter section displayed at the top of the report. Some reports will require you to fill out filters before you will see any data. You must click the Apply Filter button for the filter to take effect.

The data range on the Student Score report is by the due date.
